Defining myself as a Person...

There is a saying that you cannot serve two masters at the same time. Well, this does not have to be the absolute truth. So, how can you get the best of both worlds? In relation, complying on both academics and extracurricular activities at the same time is a tough thing to do but somehow challenging and an important thing to comply with. At first, I meet the terms of extracurricular activities for the only reason that it associates improved grade point average and to strive for higher educational aspirations. But as I go with it, I found another reason why to do so, and that is, in anyways, it helps me to improve many things like time management, vision, physical stamina, social life and control.

One significant experience I can share is being a member of our school’s dance troupe called Saliw. I remember what our club adviser used to say, “No guts, No glory!” Yes, she’s right! To dance with the feet is one but to dance with the heart is another. We move not to empress but to express. We have joined many dancing competitions such as Street dance, Folk dance and Sports dance. In every competition we bring home the bacon, bacon of pride and of new experience we had. I dance because I believe that it gives me up to the rhythms of all life and dance is an art that imprints on the soul, it is with me every moment, and it expresses itself in everything I do.

Another experience was when I joined on pageants to represent my alma mater. I participated on Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalikasan in Dumaguete during The Youth for the Environment Summer Camp (National Level) and I got 2nd runner up and Best in Talent. Next, I joined Ginoo at Binibining Agham and I got the Best in Talent, Best in Indigenous Costume and the title in the Division level held at General Trias, Cavite and got 3rd runner up in the Regional Level held at Sinoloan Laguna. In each time I hit the stage, trying to get the crowd, I think of those people who believe and trust me that I can win this. Joining in such pageants, I thought of a principle, that is, “We have bigger battles to face than beauty pageants. But the only way that we can tackle these problems is by uniting against them, not judging each other on a platform”.

Joining Camps also counts. I used to go camping as part of my extracurricular activities. I had joined Youth for the Environment Summer Camp in Dumaguete and Baguio, Regional Science Camp in Bacoor, Cavite and Sinoloan, Laguna, Survival Camp in Silang, Cavite and a lot more. While camping I learned new skills and responsibilities that either doesn’t exist in the city and at our home. Camping is also a great way to see the country and the world. It is also a very good way to meet new people. Finally, camping promotes sportsmanship, independence and camaraderie among us youth.

And these are significant experiences I had and accomplishments I have realized, that have helped to define myself as a person.

Tayong Dalawa

“Some people live for the fortune
Some people live just for the fame
Some people live for the power yeah
Some people live just to play the game”

-Alicia Keys

When I initial read the question, this soap opera of the Kapamilya tv program came in my mind, known as “Tayong Dalawa”. It shows a battle of wealth, happiness, and sorrow that engraved into the lives of the main characters of the story. The show begins by recounting the parallel stories of Marlene and Ingrid. Though they come from different strata of the social ladder, the two women have one thing in common -- they both loved David Garcia. But because of Marlene's profession as a prostitute, David chooses to marry Ingrid and cuts all ties with Marlene. Both Ingrid and Marlene get pregnant, and both give their son the same name: David Garcia, Jr. Marlene calls her son JR, while Ingrid calls hers Dave.

The parallelism of the lives of Marlene and Ingrid continues in the lives of their sons, who meet and become best friends without knowing about their intertwined lives. Both men go to the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City to train as cadets. However, like their mothers, they also fall in love with the same person, Audrey King.

The plot thickens when the characters discovery that JR is the son of Dave's father. Ingrid is appalled by this revelation primarily because she has been against her son's friendship with JR from the very beginning. With this, she begins to revert to the suicidal tendencies she developed in her childhood. Despite his wife's response, Garcia Sr. promises to provided for JR and his family to make up for the years he wasn't there for them. To make things worse, David Garcia Sr. is killed and the two families he left behind had to sort things out for themselves.

Many things Ingrid and Marlene come in parallel. Especially when they struggle for the love of one man, there set foot the battle of two mothers who desire to give the best for their family. They showed the viewers why do some people derive pleasure from the misfortunes of those who are exceedingly blessed than they are. Their happiness comes from the misery of the other. Whenever one is in depth of her problems, the other sees it as a blessing. Also, most of the time, they were the one who gives problem to that of the other.

These two characters of “Tayong Dalawa” only reflect the lives of many people today who wants to be ahead on someone more blessed than they are. As a resolution, we should not view the misfortunes of others who we think are more blessed than us because this will not be a basis of our true happiness. Instead, be happy for them and view it us an opportunity or an inspiration for us to be like them.

Dessert or Disaster

In situations wherein a person has all the authority, disaster arrives when he uses it for cruelty. That would be the simplest explanation.

For some people, they think in this approach: if you have money or the power, you have everything. People who have the power are the ones who we often call the “blessed” ones. But sometimes, they exceed their limitations, thus, using their power to get and have more, knowing that they are already hurting others or even their selves. That’s the point where the disaster comes in, or we may also call the “bad karma”! Yes, they have the power, but without them knowing, their power deteriorates slowly and slowly until there is nothing left for them. Only in that time they would realize what they did and so the regrets would keep haunting their minds. But sadly, it’s too late.

The prospect lies in our hands. You are free to do good things and you are also open to do bad things. But at the end, there would be only one choice for us. It’s either dessert or disaster.

Can This be Love

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” -I Corinthians 13:4.

Love, love, love. For me, love is what we all need. There should be the four key aspects of love. First of all is kindness. By being sensitive to other peoples' problems and needs, we make life better for everyone involved. What you may feel are seemingly insignificant acts of respect or kindness may mean a great deal to someone else. I remember the time when I helped an old man ride a bus. At first look, he does look pitiful. That’s why that’s just how I want to help him. With just simple ways, I know that this will mean a lot to him, and will mean a lot to me. After helping him, I felt just feel so happy.

Next is compassion. People who are hurting need compassion and help to make it through life. They tend to look to those closest to them or who have authority over them for support and encouragement. Show others that you genuinely understand and respect their needs and concerns by listening well and making a concerted effort to see issues from their point of view. Also, be genuinely transparent to others. Share what’s on your mind and let people see your genuineness by telling them your story including the high and low points. You should also encourage them to talk about their interests, dreams and hopes for the future. Be sensitive and allow people to vent their frustrations. Look for ways to help ease their pain and overcome hurts. Then, always treat people fairly and with respect and dignity. Your behavior sets the expectation others will have of you, so follow through on any good intentions. Most of all, being compassionate can make you feel better.

Another is joy. We can say that love is true when there is happiness. Happiness is just the thing why people become more stable or stronger. This bond makes you communicate well making love more complex. There will be no love if a couple or a group has many misunderstandings or even no happiness within themselves.

Lastly, love is true when there is freedom. It can be defined as the capacity to determine your own choices. Lovers should give oneself or the other the freedom they need to fulfill their lives.

As implied by the Corinthians, love is everything. Love is true indeed, when everything works, so magical and mysterious, a factor which we all need, a true love that will bind us all to God’s hands.

It started with a Chat

“Hi pow! Hw r u?” That are the exact words she said when she gave me a private message on Yahoo Messeger.

“Hmmm… Okie nmn pow q, kw? Haha…” I replied.

Haaaayyy…. I’m so touched. I don’t know what to do! Since I was a freshmen, she had been my crush. Well, actually, she’s every boy’s crush. So what do you expect? I nearly break the keyboard after seeing those phrases she wrote. I was so tensed. Haaaayyy… I am so hoping that this chatting thing or whatever would never end.

That was Thursday night. The last thing I remembered was that it ended about 10:30 in the evening. We had lots of fun chatting with each other. Our chat session is almost composed of non-sense things. She also told me that they have a baliw club and korni club and she’s inviting me to be the vice president. Haha… How silly! Just simple things like that, we had lots of fun every time we talk personally or chat via internet may be. And so there it started the new couple of 2009!!! Haha… How I wish that would be true.

The next day, she smiled at me. Haha… I think I am the luckiest person on earth that day. The next day, we chat again. I asked her if I can court her, she remained speechless, and that means yes!

Now, we enjoy the company of each other. Every afternoon, I’m going with her and bringing her home. We always have fun talking about our personal lives. Now, I can say that we are on the stage of courting and I’m happy to be with her.

A New Schedule, A Disaster

Oh my God! We don’t know what to do. There was a new schedule given to all third year class for an unknown reason. Well, actually we like to have a new schedule except for one thing, the fact that our Chemistry time would be before lunch.

“What!!!” All of us shouted as loud as we could as if it is the end of the world. Mrs. Equilium Bisa is known for her intelligence, punctuality and being industrious. That is what we hate about her. No offense! For sure, every student doesn’t like his or her lunch time to be occupied by any subject especially those subject which are nosebleed or not on our vocabulary. We know that the vacant period from 11:30 to 12:30 would be a time of eating, eating where we can get the energy we need to stay alert for the next subjects and chatting with are friends and classmates for more bonding. Haha…

“ Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” that’s what the lhandies had said.

“Hala! Lalo ako nitong se-sexy ehhh…” that’s what Sheila said.

“Haha! We would be the last students eating at the canteen!” that’s what I had said.

Full of negative thoughts it may be but after some day, I realized that Ma’am Bisa does that for for a lot of things, not only to be true to herself, to her occupation, not only to bond with us more, but most of all, to prepare us for our college life, for our tomorrow, for our future.

We love you Ma’am Bisa! I want to tell her that. We like you very much because you’re not just a teacher to us who gives us lecture, quizzes, or anything, but a mother who cares for us students.

Go 3-Lithium!!!

Yes! Ma’am Del Rosario announced to our class that we will be transferred to another section because there will be a Regional achievement test given to the third year students. Since those who will get the test would be composed of those students whose top of there class, of course, I’m not one of them, then we were asked to choose our section.

Since before, the Fluorine students had been close to me, so go for it. I grabbed the opportunity to be on their section again since even before, they treat me as their classmate. They even call me classmate.

Our newly found section was named III-Lithium for an unknown reason. Hehe… My first stay on their class was not that good. I’m not yet convenient with my new classmates and our first subject was Social Studies. Believe it or not, I was the first student who stood up for 0 recitation. Huhu.. Oh yah! I’m a nitrogen student but look at me, I’m the first one to stand for not answering a single question. Hehe..

After some subjects, we had lots of fun with our new classmates. Us students from Nitrogen class who go to Fluorine said that 3-Litium rocks. We were not wrong on choosing the section of Fluorine.

Every break, most of us eat together at the canteen. Every time we go upstairs or anywhere to pursue our next subject, we always fall in line, laughing, chatting, just like kids, and all those non-sense things are those that keep our bond tighter.

Haaayy,,, how sad! We only have four days to make the magic last. After that four days, I knew each everyone of them. I knew their likes, dislikes, their view of happiness, their weaknesses. Thanks for everything guys! Thanks for accepting us on your section though were not really part of it. Thank you for every moment you showed that you are happy with us nitrogen and thank you for proving that even nitrogen students can fit in with the other students.

I’ll miss you guys!

It’s New year

It was the day before New Year, December 31, 2008, to be exact. Even if it wasn’t midnight yet, we could already feel it coming. We ate our early media noche before evening. And even though it still isn’t midnight yet, we just can’t stop eating all those good foods. It felt good to eat so well sometimes. But during that time, I felt bad for those hardworking people who cannot afford a decent media noche.

The noise was somehow unbearable in the morning and it went from terrible to worse by the time it was afternoon. Fireworks could be heard both nearly and from afar. The sky lit up with every burst of the fireworks lit by enthusiastic individuals.

We waited patiently for midnight to come. How slow the time went! It would seem as if time had stopped. It was an agonizing and excruciating, figuratively, wait. Time passed by. At last, it’s already just minutes before midnight.

Maybe this would be the unhappiest new year I had. Why? Because most of our relatives are now abroad who used to celebrate the new year with us. But it’s okay for me, I’m sure that though we are in different nations, we both celebrate a happy new year. Hehe…

We prepared ourselves in welcoming 2009. We lit fountains and other kinds of fireworks. We ate a lot! Especially the lechon baboy! Hhhuuu!!! I could hardly breathe.

Haaayyy… “What could be my newyear’s resolution?”

“What could be the changes in me?”

“What could happen this year 2009?”

Hmmm… I wandered lonely as a cloud. Hehe…

My 2008 Christmas

Before our family went to Batangas, I’m here at school celebrating a merry Christmas with my beloved classmates and friends. We had a Christmas party at our school and we had lots of fun. At the morning, we had the school level party which was held by the Supreme Student Government. There are a lot of games for the whole students of Cavite National Science High School and a lot of fun made by each of one of us at the Gymnasium of our alma matter.

At the afternoon, we had the year level Christmas party. We had it at the front of the Type A Maliksi Building. We had more games like Picture this, Bring Me, and Hep hep Huray. Haha… I mean it, I was amazed at Noel Madlangbayan’s actions when he was acting like Pokwang. Haha… We had our intermission numbers and the boys of III-Nitrogen danced Marian Rivera’s So Sexy. I also played the role of Armando from the television series “I Love Betty La Fea” while Chala was convinced to play the role of Betty and Froiland as Nicholas, a friend of Betty.

After having the year level program, we went to our classroom to eat and to have fun with our very own classmates. We had singing, dancing, playing and a lot more. We also ate a lot!!! Haha… That was the best part.

At the afternoon, we had our flag retreat ceremony and had picture taking. Haaayy!!! I love my section.

After some days, we went to Batangas to celebrate Jesus’ birth together with our relatives and family friends.

We always spend our Christmas in there, I can feel the serenity and the calmness of the nature whenever I stay there. It’s not just a simple place. It’s a house alongside a mountain and in front of the sea. So if you are a nature-lover, you would really enjoy staying there. Though there’s no electrical power, you won’t feel sweaty, because the wind keeps on blowing.

On the day of Christmas, the first thing we did was to go to the church. We don’t actually miss any mass during Christmas days. We went straight to our house for the most awaited part, the sharing of gifts. I received money and gifts from my beloved relatives, and together, we opened the gifts. Right after the gift-giving, we ate all together. There are no exact words to express our positive feelings. Haha….

After three consecutive days of no electricity, hehe, we went back to Cavite and lived happily ever after. Haha…

Being One of the Campus Idols

Oh no! My heart beats at an exaggerating pace, because in few more minutes, I’ll be there onstage. I kept on smiling to hide the nervousness, but I just can’t conceal. It’s really hard. The fact that I’m a contestant of Campus Idol makes me crazy, because this is actually my first time to join a singing contest. I just wanted to grab the remote control and hit pause. There’s no escape from this, I have to face this bravely.

Actually, that afternoon was the only time I decided what to do and what to sing. Haaayy… I’m so nervous! I’ll be competing with the fairest singers of Cavite National Science High School. What will I do?

That afternoon, I went outside with Darleen, also a contestant, to buy a blank CD. After that, we went separately on each house and got the things we needed for the competition. Then we went to Jenny’s house at San Miguel to prepare for the said event. I’m treating Jenny as my manager because she’s always been there for me. Haha.. Thanks for that! We practiced singing, gestures and a lot more.

“And I’ll taste every moment….” I sang on. I could almost feel the emotions embedded in the song. It felt good to be relieved from the burden of painfully waiting for my moment to finish. After the singing thing, the judges now gave their comments. What! So negative! I feel so down that time!

“Practice more on vocals!”
“You should rehearse more!”
“Don’t eat your words!”

Those are just some of the negative comments they had said.

Finally, we were on the last part, the moment of truth. I was immobilized when they called my name! My legs went numb, thinking that I would fall. The feeling was unexplainable. Yehey, I made it into the finals! I won’t be able to do this without the full support of my classmates and my friends. Haha…

This memoir will never be part of my time-faded memories. The truth is if you search deep enough into my treasure chest, you would find this moment labeled “Time of my Life.” Hehe…

“What could I sing for the finals?” Hmmm…..

Happy birthday to me

Finally, my day has come! I’ve waited for this for a year. I can’t believe it, I’m a year older. I’m getting older and older year by year. But I don’t care. As of now, I’m gonna enjoy this moment.

When I woke up, I did not realize that it was already my birthday, until my parents greeted me “HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” Suddenly, I felt an intense feeling of excitement. Right after waking up, I thanked God for giving me the chance to live on this world, and I hoped for more birthdays to come.

Students started to greet me a happy birthday, and that made me happy because they remembered my birthday. Hehehe. Our class sang the happy birthday song for me, and I was really grateful.

I feel sorry for my friends and classmates because I was not able to treat them. Haha… “Sorry guys! Promise, next year!”

In our house, my parents cooked pancit. All of us ate lots of it. I couldn’t ask for more. PEPSI. xD. Haha!!!

Though we are not complete because my sister is at Manila, I’m happy because we stay close and we can face any problem obstructing our way.

Staplers are used to organize things. They are used to modify things up. So that is where i got this idea to pursue an unfinished business with regards to this matter.

Automatic staplers help automate the stapling process. Because this stapler is made with a sensor, then stapling can be done in seconds. Even through large stacks of paper, this stapler will be functional for the industry and our economy.

Teachers, office workers and students find it hard to staple about 30+ papers in just one process. To help minimize their work, I'll be glad to continue Ate KC's recommended research. My goal here is to beat the staplers sold on markets nationwide which can only accomodate upto 30 papers in one stapling. Here, using a sensor made automatic stapler, work could be minimized and stapling would be on a few seconds.

In this study, the researchers would be using different tools and machines to come up with the idea. After each trials, the researchers would know what tools or materials best fit the stapling process for a more convenient and more useful stapler than those sold on the markets.
